Kohala's Project Venture

I Ke Ala Pono

The KPV program begins with Initiator Hikes at the end of 5th grade and leads into a 6-day intensive summer Initiator Camp to facilitate the growth of leadership skills, teamwork, and confidence before they begin middle school. Once 6th grade begins, the students build on the principles learned at camp through after-school service opportunities (mentoring elementary school children, raising money for others in need, beach cleanups) and continued outdoor experiences (hiking, biking, ropes challenge, fishing, camping, kayaking). At the end of 6th grade, a Rite of Passage camp honors students for their year-long journey of courage and leadership, provides an opportunity for alaka‘i (pathleaders) to celebrate their experiences with family and friends on the last day of camp, and invites them to take the lessons learned with them as they begin to enter adulthood.
